Great Walks Magazine - Lark Force Wilderness Track

A Walk to Remember

The Lark Force Wilderness Track - Escape from Rabaul is the feature story in the April/May edition of Great Walks Magazine. The story is written by editor Brent McKean and features comments from former Lieutenant Mick Smith of the 2nd 22nd Battalion and who was involved in the escape from Rabaul.

The Lark Force Wilderness Track will be comprised of 3 to 4 walks ranging from 60-100KM. The track will be the first in PNG to be owned 100% by the local indigenous clans, and be operated and managed by the landowner trust. This will allow payments to track emploees such as porters and guides to be controlled for a fairer system. There will also be a quota system for the number of walkers on the track. To minimise environmental impact there will be a 3KM corridor that will be preseved wilderness jungle.

Be sure to secure your copy of the magazine - available from newsagency in Australia and New Zealand.
