The event is organised by the National Cultural Commission (Government entity) whose intention is to educate the local community (in particular youth groups) about their indigenous heritage and culture.
For the traveller this event promotes the non-commercialisation of PNG indigenous culture as the aim is to entice tourists on a mass scale to attend the event rather then to visit at random and pay local groups to perform on a one-off payment basis.
