Tour Description:
NIV102 Tour (10 Days/9 Nights) is a South Sea Horizons specialty tour and aims at bringing our client on our unique New Ireland Village safari to the beautiful Tabar group of islands. SSH guests will be accommodated and entertained on Tatau island at a local village guest house managed and operated by members of the SSH family. On this tour our guest will enjoy a few days in Rabaul before and after the village safari experience in Tabar.
The Tabar Group of Islands are world renowned for being the original birthplace of the Malagan Culture. The Malgan is a traditional form of indigenous artistry, symbolically represented through the Malagan mask and representing the local Tabarian culture, identify and distinguishing tribal clans that have inhabited the islands for many thousands of years.
On this tour our client will visit a number of different Malagan Carvers being able to learn from the local carver the symbolic meanings of the masks in relation to the clan who the mask represent and the methods and materials used to create the malagan.
Our guest will be able to enjoy various outdoor activities available on the Tabar islands that include bluewater fishing, bush walking and snorkeling.
The unique village tour allows our clients to learn traditional methods of fishing “Bom Bom”, hunting, the preparation of food and a day visit to the local church service to listen to the harmonic gospel songs sung by the local village in Tabar dialect.
Each night the local cultural group will perform and entertain our guest playing both traditional and gospel music on the guesthouse beachfront.

Extra Information:
- Commuting between the islands is conducted on 19-22 foot banana boat vessels and can hold up to 8 people per boat. For safety purposes life vests are provided but our guest is welcomed to bring their own life vests.
- Packing: Sun cream, hat, sunglasses, sandals/thongs and reef shoes, snorkeling equipment, summer attire – t-shirts, shorts.
- Meals, laundry and amenities are all available and provided by the village guesthouse.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Depart Brisbane to Port Moresby and guest will transit to the domestic terminal. A SSH representative will meet and greet client at the airport.
Depart Port Moresby to Rabaul – Meet and greet by SSH Representative and guest will be transferred to Rapopo plantation resort. Overnight stay.
Day 2: Guest will be guided on a full day land tour around Rabaul visiting World War II relics and War museum, The local marketplace, The volcano observatory and a late afternoon swim at the Volcanic Hot Springs.
Day 3: Free Day – Guest will have a variety of activities available including snorkeling or scuba diving, blue water fishing, golf or harbour tour.
Day 4: Depart Rabaul to Simberi Island Airstrip by light aircraft (8 or 16 seater).
Day 5: Beach Picnic Day at Maragon Plantation (Simberi Island) – Available to guests
Day 6 -Day 8: Free Day on Tatau Island (Activities available upon request - Fishing, Trekking and more)
Day 9: Depart Tatau island to Simberi Island airstrip. Depart Tabar to Rabaul. Meet and and greet by SSH representative and transfer to Rapopo Plantation resort. Overnight stay in Rabaul.
Day 10: Depart Rabaul to Brisbane (via Port Moresby).
