Tour Description:

Package 2: Includes a 5 night stay at Rubio Plantation Retreat with access to 20 plus breaks all within 1/2 hour by boat or 1/2 hour by 4 Wheel Drive.

The surf season is from mid-October to mid-April. Rubio has a good, consistent break right at our beach. There are also many other good breaks in the area.

Surf spots range from mellow longboard waves to fast and hollow reef passes. We have both rights and lefts and are open to many swell directions.

There are boats and vehicles available to take you out to the many excellent breaks on the offshore islands or along the coast. We never book more than 10 surfers at one time and with our many available breaks you will never be dealing with a crowd.

We have discovered many previously unknown surf breaks in hidden locations. We will guide you to these amazing spots. We are continuing to discover and surf new spots each season.

Accommodation:

Types: Standard Bunglaow - Deluxe Bungalow - Family Bungalow

The bungalows are made from native materials and are located along the beachfront. All beds have mosquito nets. The experienced and friendly staff will take care of all your needs. Solar panels and hydroelectric provide power for the retreat. There are flush toilets and showers in our deluxe and family bungalows and also in a toilet block.

What the Tour Package includes:

Surf

This is to surf any of the breaks that can be driven to in approximately 1 hour or reached by boat in 1/2 hour. There are 20+ breaks that can be accessed in this distance.

Meals

The kitchen serves 3 meals a day, family style. Coffee and tea are set out at all times. Local organic home made cocoa is also available, and very delicious. Meals consist of a combination of European, Asian and local foods, and home baked bread and pastries. We grow our own organic fruits and vegetables on the plantation. These include mangoes, papayas, bananas, avocados, lemons, limes, mandarins, taro, sweet potatoes etc.

Caves/Hiking/Bird watching/Canoeing/Bicycling

Besides just enjoying the beach and stream there are lots of other things to do. Visitors come from around the world to enjoy our excellent Bird Watching. There are several interesting caves near by to be explored. For hikers the possibilities are endless. Fresh water comes out in many places making for very interesting geography. At Pam village there is a beautiful waterfall very near the road. Because the Buluminski Highway never has any very steep sections, it is perfect for bicycles. It is a wonderful way to really see the county side. You can ride from town and then be driven back. During the off-season for surf, it is great fun to explore the coast in a canoe or kayak.

Cultural

Sing Sings (traditional dancing) and Mumus (traditional cooking in an underground oven) can be arranged with the local village.
A trip by boat can be arranged to visit the world famous Malangan carvers on Tabar Island.
Cultural tours to other locations can also be arranged.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Depart overseas destination to Rabaul. Meet and greet in Port Moresby by PNG Surf Association – PNG Surf Kit is given to surfer. Transit to Domestic terminal and depart Port Moresby to Rabaul. Surfer is greeted by South Sea Horizons representative and transferred to Rapopo Plantation Resort. Overnight in Rabaul.

Day 2: Depart Rabaul to Kavieng. Meet and greet by SSH representative and transfer Rubio Plantation Retreat (Approx 3 -4 hours drive down the Buliminski Highway).

Day 3-6:Full Day Surfing (Local guides, Meals and surf fees)

Day 7: Morning surf at Rubio. Depart to Kaveing (late afternoon) and check in to Malagan Hotel (overnight).

Day 8: Depart Kavieng to Overseas Destination (via Port Moresby)
